Privacy Policy

In short

• There is no account and no sign-up. Little Firsts works the moment it opens.
• Your child’s reading progress, word collection, language choices and settings are stored only on the device.
• We use no advertising and no tracking — no ad identifiers (IDFA / AAID), no third-party ad or analytics SDKs that profile your child.
• We don’t collect or receive your child’s personal information. There is nothing about your child on our servers.
• The app works fully offline after stories are installed.
• The only things that can leave the device are ones you choose: downloading a story pack, a purchase made through the app store, an OS backup you switched on, or an optional, anonymous crash report.

Built for children, privacy-first

Little Firsts is designed for young children (around ages 3 to 6) and is meant to be used together with a parent or guardian. We designed it to align with children’s-privacy rules such as the U.S. Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) and the GDPR (including provisions on children, sometimes called GDPR-K), and with the App Store and Google Play family policies.

We meet those standards the simplest way there is: by not collecting personal information from children at all. There is no profile, no behavioural advertising, and no tracking across apps or websites.

What stays on the device

Everything Little Firsts remembers lives in a database on your device: which stories you’ve opened, the words your child has met (the First Words collection), the base and target languages you picked, narration and bedtime preferences, and app settings.

Little Firsts does not upload this. There is no Little Firsts account, no sign-in, and no cloud sync operated by us. We cannot see any of it.

What we don’t collect

Because "we care about privacy" means nothing on its own, here is the specific list. Little Firsts contains:

• No analytics, telemetry or usage-tracking SDKs that build a profile of your child.
• No advertising, no ad identifiers (IDFA / AAID), and no third-party ad networks.
• No accounts, no social logins, and no access to contacts, photos, the camera, the microphone or your location.
• No selling, renting or sharing of personal data — we don’t hold it to begin with.

Stories and downloads

Stories and word packs are delivered as versioned content packs. Some are bundled with the app; others can be downloaded inside the app. When the app downloads a pack, it makes an ordinary request to our content host (a CDN) for those files.

• That request carries only what any file download needs (for example, your device’s IP address and the file requested). It does not include your child’s name, your account (there isn’t one), or what your child has read.
• Our host may keep short-lived, standard server logs to deliver files and protect against abuse. These are not used to build a profile of your child and are not combined with anything personal.
• Once a pack is installed, reading it needs no network at all — Little Firsts works fully offline.

Purchases and subscriptions

You can start for free. Unlocking the full library is a single subscription (monthly, yearly, or a one-time lifetime purchase). Payments are handled entirely by Apple’s App Store or Google’s Google Play — we never see or store your card or payment details.

To unlock and validate a purchase, the store gives the app limited transaction information (for example, whether a subscription is active). Apple’s and Google’s handling of your purchase is governed by their own privacy policies.

Crash reports (optional, no personal data)

So we can find and fix bugs, a published build of Little Firsts may send anonymous crash reports through Sentry, a crash-reporting service. When this is active:

• It sends only technical crash information — the error and stack trace, app version, OS version and device model.
• It is configured to attach no personal data, and it never includes anything your child has read or collected.
• It captures crashes only — there is no behavioural, performance or session tracking.

If a build ships without a crash-reporting key configured, this is switched off entirely and nothing is sent.

Notifications

Any reminders (such as an optional gentle bedtime nudge, if you turn one on) are local notifications generated on the device. We don’t operate a push server, and no data leaves the device to deliver them.

Permissions

Little Firsts asks for as little as possible. It does not need your location, contacts, photos, camera or microphone. If you choose to enable reminders, the app will ask for notification permission — and you can withdraw it any time in your device settings.

The parent zone

Settings that aren’t for little fingers — choosing languages, managing a subscription, bedtime and privacy options — sit behind a simple parent gate. This keeps a child inside the stories and keeps grown-up choices with the grown-ups.

Your rights and control

Because the data lives on your device, you hold the controls directly:

• Clear the word collection and progress from within the app, or delete the app to remove everything.
• Manage or cancel a subscription in your App Store or Google Play account.
• Turn any optional feature (reminders, crash reports) on or off.

Privacy laws such as the GDPR and the CCPA give you rights to access, correct, delete and port personal data. We honour these — and in practice there is very little for us to act on, because we don’t hold your or your child’s personal data on any server. If you’ve emailed us, you can ask us about that message.

International users

Little Firsts processes data on your device, wherever you are. The limited third parties involved — Apple, Google, our content host, and (if enabled) Sentry — process data in their own jurisdictions under their respective policies and safeguards.

Changes to this policy

If we change this policy, we’ll update the "Effective" date above and flag any material change here or in the app. Continuing to use Little Firsts after a change means you accept the updated policy.
